About me

Though the majority of my life has been spent in Southern California, for the last decade I have called Seattle, WA home.  Formally trained as an art educator, with a background in ceramics and fiber arts, I graduated from California Lutheran University. I received my professional teaching credential through San Diego State University and I recently completed my certification in Natural Science Illustration through the University of Washington. Currently, I am employed as an art educator at Northwest Yeshiva High School, Mercer Island, WA.

I have always been a great lover of animals. I can't remember a time in my life where I have not had a furry companion, or two, or three, at my side. This fascination with mammals and birds has inspired me to study them in detail, starting with rudimentary sketches and working toward full fleshed out illustrations. Accurate depictions are my specialty. Temporarily putting my production of ceramics on hold,  I am now exploring the mediums of watercolor, color pencil, graphite and pen and ink when drawing birds and animals.

When not teaching, or working in my art studio, I am most relaxed taking long walks or hiking with my puppy companion, Louie. In my free time, I love to read, garden, ski, binge watch Netflix series, and travel with my husband Mark.

I am available for commission and freelance work. If you are interested in working with me, taking an art class, or just saying hello, I can be reached at smusesolomon@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from you.

My constant companion, Louie.
